Suzanne Mela, MD
Suzanne Mela, MD, is responsible for medical monitoring of assigned allergy and respiratory clinical trials for both the adult and pediatric populations. In her work, she provides strategic consulting for successful clinical trials, liaises with thought leaders in the respiratory therapeutic space and develops medical monitoring plans. She also provides medical expertise and input to support protocol design and feasibility, site identification and strategic planning for building a therapeutically aligned network. Her role also involves review of medical and safety data, SAEs and clinical trial risk.
Dr. Mela is board-certified in Adult and Pediatric Allergy, Asthma and Immunology with expertise in direct patient care and the pharmaceutical industry. She started her prestigious career as a Fellow at National Jewish Medical and Research Center where she developed a strong foundation for research and clinical trial design and later built an adult and pediatric practice in an underserved area. Her previous expertise in clinical trials opened the door for her to serve as a Principal Investigator offering her patients with poorly controlled allergy, asthma, skin and Immunodeficiency disease states hope.
Her passion was to make a difference in the lives of her patients, and she knew that she had to reach individuals on a global level. She then took the next step in her career path as a Medical Director with a larger Global CRO where she was able to exercise her medical expertise as a leader in the field of Adult and Pediatric Allergy, Asthma and Immunology in Phase I to IV clinical trials for eight years. Her leadership roles as a KOL, clinician in both academia and private practice and global medical monitoring have accounted for the invaluable experience she exhibits in clinical trial design and bringing a product to market in the allergy and respiratory space prior to joining Fortrea.
